Taking a Walk on a Graph

چکیده
A walk on an edge-colored graph G is a path in G which contains each edge at least once, and the trace of a walk w is the sequence of edge-colors seen in w. We investigate the walk realizability problem, which is to decide, given an edge-colored graph G and a string x of colors, if there is a walk on G with trace x. We de ne a method of decomposing graphs into linear chains, and show that the number of the linear chains in the decomposition is a key to the complexity of the walk realizability problem. The problem is shown to be in NLOG for the following classes of graphs: (i) undirected graphs decomposable into a constant number of linear chains, (ii) trees decomposable into O(logm) linear chains, where m is the number of edges, (iii) directed graphs decomposable into O(logm) linear chains. However, the problem for trees, some of which are decomposable into (m) linear chains, turns to be NP-complete even for (1,1)-caterpillars which are trees of a very simple form.

Quantum walks based on an interferometric analogy
There are presently two models for quantum walks on graphs. The “coined” walk uses discrete time steps, and contains, besides the particle making the walk, a second quantum system, the coin, that determines the direction in which the particle will move. The continuous walks operate with continuous time. Here a third model for quatum walks is proposed, which is based on an analogy to optical int...
متن کاملA Topology-Aware Random Walk
When a graph can be decomposed into clusters of well connected subgraphs, it is possible to speed up random walks taking advantage of the topology of the graph. In this work, a new random walk scheme is introduced and a condition is given when the new random walk performs better than the Metropolis algorithm.
متن کاملQuenched invariance principle for a long-range random walk with unbounded conductances
We consider a random walk on a random graph (V,E), where V is the set of open sites under i.i.d. Bernoulli site percolation on the d-dimensional integer set Z with d ≥ 2, and the transition probabilities of the walk are generated by i.i.d. random conductances (positive numbers) assigned to the edges in E. This random walk in random environments has long range jumps and is reversible. We prove t...
متن کاملInvestigation of continuous-time quantum walks via spectral analysis and Laplace transform
Continuous-time quantum walk (CTQW) on a given graph is investigated by using the techniques of the spectral analysis and inverse Laplace transform of the Stieltjes function (Stieltjes transform of the spectral distribution) associated with the graph. It is shown that, the probability amplitude of observing the CTQW at a given site at time t is related to the inverse Laplace transformation of t...
متن کاملOn the tenacity of cycle permutation graph
A special class of cubic graphs are the cycle permutation graphs. A cycle permutation graph Pn(α) is defined by taking two vertex-disjoint cycles on n vertices and adding a matching between the vertices of the two cycles. In this paper we determine a good upper bound for tenacity of cycle permutation graphs.
